Top Reasons Why Emergency First Aid is an Important Skill to Have

At our First Responders First Aid training facility in Surrey, we offer a variety of courses which includes Emergency First Aid (EFA). This is a WorkSafeBC Occupational Level 1 (OFA 1) equivalent and can be used in any workplace, as well as in real-life situation.

As stated on our course page, “we utilize hands-on training and practice, (and) this basic first aid course will give you confidence to respond effectively in an emergency. You will learn lifesaving skills such as CPR/AED and obstructed airway procedures to respond to adult, child and infant emergencies. You will also learn to recognize and respond to respiratory and circulatory emergencies including asthma, allergic reactions, heart attack, stroke, and bleeding.”

These are just some of the top emergency situations you might respond to, but there are additional reasons why this is an important skill to have, which includes…

Safety for Those Around You – prevention is key when it comes to first aid. So, having first aid training can offer those around you peace of mind as well as a sense of safety that preventative measures are top of mind for someone trained in first aid.

Pain Relief in a Crisis – accidents happen, even when taking the best of precautions. But knowing what to do in the case of an accident can mean the difference between intense pain and added injury vs. pain relief and stabilizing the situation. If you can avoid the emergency room with the help of an expert knowing how to treat a cut or a sprain, or understanding how to reduce swelling or allergic reactions – it will be advantageous in helping those you care about.

Reassurance and Prevention – having a calm voice in a moment of concern can mean the difference between panic setting in, and calm minds delivering immediate care to prevent further harm. Keeping a situation from going from bad to worse could mean the difference between life and death in some cases, and helping a victim stay alert until an ambulance arrives can make all the difference in the final outcome.

Having first-hand knowledge of how to help in an emergency situation truly can help save lives – and we’re here to offer you the first aid training in Surrey to do so. At First Responders classes are happening every day, and every day counts when it comes to any life at risk.
