What is CPR?

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is the core of all first aid. This training focuses on life threatening conditions such as shock, heart attack, stroke and airway obstructions. Scenario focused training builds confidence in our responses to the most common of medical emergencies. CPR has several levels: CPR-A, CPR-B, CPR-C and CPR-C HCP.

  • CPR-A is concerned with the treatment of adults only. This is often the only level needed to satisfy the Occupational First Aid Level 1 requirements (OFA 1).
  • CPR-B has been removed from the CPR definitions, there is now only CPR-A and CPR-C
  • CPR-C is concerned with the treatment of adults, children and infants.
  • CPR-C Healthcare Provider (CPR-C HCP) adds training that allows medical professionals, such as nurses, to coordinate with EMS personnel during a medical emergency. This level has been renamed as Basic Life Support – Responder (BLS-R) by many agencies.
  • “AED” stands for automated external defibrillator, and “HCP” stands for Health Care Provider.
  • Emergency First Aid (EFA) builds on the CPR core and extends the training into wound management and medical conditions.
  • Standard First Aid (SFA) extends the training in EFA. We dive deeper into the medical conditions and add more levels to the practice scenarios.
